Jakarta Provincial Government keeps running strategic step in stabilizing price, food stock and support the economy activity ahead of Christmas and New Year celebration.

Jakarta Food Security, Maritime and Agriculture Agency (KPKP) Head, Suharini Eliawati said several commodities such as rice, chili, onion, chicken meat and beef are in safe stock.

"PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya data mentioned that rice stock for three months ahead is safe. The remaining stock is safe until the Ramadan month. Dharma Jaya also mentions that the beef stock is safe," Eli said, Friday (12/20).

Eli added that Jakarta Provincial Government actively monitors the stock, price and the distribution. The effort is run together with Food Taskforce and law enforcement officer to avoid market speculation.

"The chili price is increasing due to rainy season in producer areas. Transportation sector is also monitored to anticipate delay due to weather. In fact, the inter-regional cooperation which is tightened with food-based BUMD since mid 2024 has successfully maintained the commodity stock at the market," she added.

Moreover, the cheap bazar or mobile cheap food by involving food-based BUMN and BUMD of Jakarta was held to suppress price increases during Nataru periods at Jakarta Provincial Government's offices, flats, RPTRAs, and so on.

"The programs were held 22 days at 111 locations in December. Jakarta Provincial Government also has provided and distributed subsidized food for certain residents up to December 2024," she continued.

Eli explained that Jakarta Provincial Government also tries to prevent panic buying through education for residents. Jakarta TPID team will run direct education for residents that food stock in Jakarta is safe.

"It is effective to prevent panic buying," she explained.

According to her, tight supervision is also run by TPID team and Food Taskforce at traditional markets, warehouses, and modern markets to maintain food quality. Food sampling is also checked by KPKP Agency, PPKUKM Agency, Health Agency, and BPOM to make sure that the foods are safely consumed.

"Hopefully the residents are able to celebrate Christmas and New year without worrying the price increases or low food stock," she stated.
